Late-night fire at Portelet Bay Café
FIREFIGHTERS were scrambled to Portelet Bay on Friday night after a fire broke out near the Portelet Bay Café.
The emergency services began to receive calls about the incident near the pizzeria at around 11.45pm and sent two crews from the St Helier station along with one from the on-call Western Station.
After arriving, firefighters found that a wood store was on fire and that the blaze had begun to spread to the surrounding trees and land.
However, the incident was soon brought under control and the café escaped unscathed. Crews remained on scene damping down the area.
The owners of café said on Facebook: 'Portelet Bay Café thank you for your quick assistance – it was a dreadful moment when we considered the worst. We are very grateful for your help.'
The Fire and Rescue Service has since asked the public to remain vigilant for potential countryside and coastal fires during the current spell of dry weather.
