Spate of littering reported at beauty spots around Island

Pictures of dozens of plastic bottles, sweet packets and take-away sandwich wrappers have been taken at sites near Le Hocq and Grève de Lecq.

There have also been reports of large amounts of litter being left regularly at Le Coleron Battery, behind St Brelade’s Bay pier.

The National Trust for Jersey, which is responsible for maintaining large areas of natural beauty in Jersey, say their rangers have found litter at the site in St Brelade and at Le Hocq ‘every Monday morning’ over the past few weeks.

Outdoor activity business Jersey Adventures has also shared an image of large amounts of litter left on rocks to the east of Grève de Lecq at a spot popular with rock-jumpers.

The company’s post on Facebook read: ‘To all the dudes who enjoy their cliff-jumping at Grève de Lecq, despite respectfully asking you to take your rubbish away, it appears that your mentality still thinks that it’s not your problem and that the sea will wash it away! Haven’t you seen David Attenborough? Please leave the site how you would like to find it or perhaps bring your mums along to tidy up after you!’

The National Trust for Jersey is now calling on Islanders to report anyone they see misusing its sites after a spate of littering at Le Don Le Quesne, near Le Hocq.

The trust’s post on social media read: ‘We welcome everyone to use our sites and only ask people to keep them free of rubbish and to only leave their footprints behind.

‘If you see any one misusing these or any of our sites, please either contact us, the relevant parish hall or the police (if damage is being caused).

‘We only have a small team to manage these sites and cannot patrol them every day.

‘So please help us to keep these places safe, clean and beautiful for people, pets and wildlife.

‘Thank you to all that already pick up rubbish and care for our countryside. We know there are lots of you out there.’
