New beer festival for Jersey

The inaugural Beer Island Festival at the Havre des Pas Lido is due to take place on 27 and 28 July in a joint venture between the BeServed Group and the Jersey branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.

A number of local visiting brewers and distillers are also due to travel to Jersey to support the event. More than 50 craft beers, real ales and ciders from the UK, Europe and United States are due to be on offer as well as local brews from Liberation, Bliss Brewing, Stinky Bay and La Robeline Cider.

A full bar will also offer more than 20 gins as well as rums, wines and soft drinks. Food will include Genuine Jersey burgers, a Jersey Royal spud bar, Jersey Oyster raw bar and Jersey Dairy ice cream.

Music will be provided throughout the event including DJ sets by Ben Newman, John O’Connell and DJ Nelson.

A statement released by the organisers says: ‘Beer Island Festival aims to be an annual event and is focused on showcasing local drink, food and entertainment at this iconic and spectacular coastal landmark.

‘The festival aims to attract independent breweries from around the globe, to visit Jersey and bridge the gap between cask and keg, delivering the best quality beers and ciders for everyone to enjoy.’

Entry will be free for CAMRA card holders and Bliss Brewing Company ‘plegends’ and £10 for all other guests. A recyclable and reusable souvenir drinking glass and event brochure will be provided as part of the entry fee, with tickets due to go on sale two weeks ahead of the event.

It was announced that the Havre des Pas Festival was being axed last week. It had been in doubt since April following a dispute between the organisers and the Parish of St Helier.
