Dog attacked three times in nine weeks at Bel Royal

Patricia Pirie (65) is appealing to dog owners to be more responsible after she and her dog were attacked by dogs off of their leashes on the beach at Bel Royal.

Mrs Pirie said that both she and her dog, Bella, were now wary of other dogs, especially after a recent attack by a bulldog, during which she had to kick the other animal away.

She said: ‘I want to be clear that this isn’t an attack on all dogs and their owners, as the majority of dogs we encounter are trained and well
behaved. But some owners, even including some dog walkers, don’t seem to care what their dogs do and it is incredibly dangerous.’

She added that it was ‘unusual’ for her pet to be attacked on numerous occasions at the same spot near the Burger Bar at Bel Royal.

Under the law, dogs must be kept on a lead on the beach from 10.30am to 6pm between 1 May and 30 September. Mrs Pirie said that some dog owners were completely ignoring the law.

‘Bella is such a lovely little dog and she’s so friendly. I don’t want these attacks to make her nervous of other dogs,’ she said.
