Cost of consultants and income support on the States agenda

Deputy Kirsten Morel has lodged a proposal for the government to regularly publish a list of consulting contracts worth £1,000 or more.

Chief Minister John Le Fondré has lodged an amendment to the proposal, saying that while he largely agrees with the commitment to transparency, the threshold should be on contracts worth £25,000.

Deputy Morel has lodged a subsequent amendment to this, arguing that if a different threshold is to be set, it should be £20,000.

Meanwhile, Social Security Minister Judy Martin is proposing changes to the income support system to boost incentives for households to increase their own income.

She is proposing to increase most of the income support components by 1.9%, and increase the first child component by just over £5 per week.

If approved by States Members, the changes would come into effect on 1 October.

Also due to be debated this week is a proposal to extend the contract of States Greffier Mark Egan and to request the Channel Islands Competition Regulatory Authorities to bring forward a telecommunications strategy before any 5G frequencies are allocated.

A total of 40 written and 16 oral questions have been tabled for the sitting.

Senator Le Fondré and Deputy Martin are due to face questions without notice.
