New restaurant due to open at Elizabeth Terminal on Monday

Five-and-a-half years after the old bar and café closed, The Shipyard will open at midday on Monday.

The ale and coffee house is a joint venture between Ports of Jersey and the Casual Dining Group, which operates the airport food and beverage franchise and two similar eateries at Heathrow Airport. The group also runs Bella Italia in St Helier.

Featuring a capacity of around 250 people, The Shipyard boasts all-day menus to attract people throughout the day, including separate gluten-free and vegan and vegetarian menus, and a children’s menu. Diners will also be able to use the car parking at the terminal.

Open seven days a week, Ports of Jersey hopes the restaurant will become a destination for everyone, with a children’s play area, as well as television screens that will show live sport and a small stage where live entertainment can be put on during the evenings. Private parties will also be catered for.

The venue has cost Ports of Jersey just under £2.5 million to develop, but it is hoped that it will generate a healthy revenue.

Jonathan Crick, chief commercial officer for Ports of Jersey, explained: ‘It’s such a superb site, a waterside location, it’s a real opportunity for us. Part of our mission since incorporation is to be a little bit more creative in terms of looking for business investment ideas so that we can generate new revenue streams.’
