Fire family ‘amazed’ by people’s generosity

The Keywoods returned to their home in Maufant on Saturday to find it had been destroyed by fire and had claimed the life of their pet dog, Ollie.

With almost all of their possessions destroyed, a Just Giving page was launched with a target of £2,000.

However, two days on from it being started, £5,600 has already been donated to help Krin and her daughter Charlotte purchase belongings and furnish a new place. Some individual donations have exceeded £100.

Krin (55) said she could not believe the generosity of Islanders since Saturday’s fire.

She added: ‘It is amazing how many people have helped and donated. You don’t realise until something like this happens how helpful people can be.

‘So many people have been coming to my neighbour’s house, Jane Blackwell, and everyone has been so helpful.’

Miss Keywood’s insurance company is visiting the home later
this week to assess the damage.

Miss Keywood added: ‘The insurance people are set to come in tomorrow, and I think I will have to go to the property.

‘We are told we can move into a house that is the same, but that won’t be furnished.

‘I am in a hotel at the moment, and there has been mention of an apartment that is furnished.

‘However with it being the summer season, a lot of those are taken so we are waiting to see what the insurance company say.’
