Family’s dog killed in house fire

In an update posted online, the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said they would spend the day around the Maufant area offering advice and reassurance following the blaze on Saturday, which started when the family were out.

It was one of two kitchen fires during the day, with a man and child taken to hospital in a separate incident.

In a statement, the fire service said: ‘At the Georgetown incident, one adult and one child were taken to hospital, with the adult suffering burns and possible smoke inhalation and a brave little girl undergoing a precautionary check up.

‘At the Maufant fire not only was the house severely damaged but tragically the family dog also perished in the fire. Today Green Watch will be in and around the area offering advice and reassurance to the community.’
