Cancelled Fort event finds a new venue

Electronic music festival BLKOUT will now be held on Easter Saturday at the Watersplash nightclub in St Peter. But the event, which usually receives a licence extension until 4am, will now only go on until 2am.

Refunds are being offered to Islanders who have already bought tickets and no longer wish to go. Those seeking refunds are asked to send their request via ticket website Eventbrite by Friday evening.

Last month, Fort Regent was forced to cancel all events expecting more than 1,170 people due to be held there after an independent fire-safety report found issues with various features including lighting, emergency exits and smoke detection and extraction. Five events were left needing to find new venues.

The organisers behind BLKOUT said they looked at various locations, including near Val de la Mare Reservoir, and asked for a one-hour extension to licensing hours at the Watersplash to open until 3 am – both plans were rejected.

‘We are incredibly lucky that we have managed to secure the ‘Splash for Easter Saturday, and although it’s not what we had planned originally, we will be making sure this night lives long in the memory for all who attend,’ a spokesman said.

Due to the new venue’s limited capacity, tickets are now sold out. A waiting list has been set up for anyone who is still looking for tickets.

The spokesman added: ‘Apologies to anyone who will now miss out on BLKOUT this year but rest assured that this was 100% beyond our control, and we’ve done everything within our power to make it right for you. We will make the most out of this unforeseen situation that has been forced upon us.’
