Bus fares to rise

Cash fares will go up from £2.20 to £2.30 for adults while the child and student cash fare will remain at £1.10.

Avanchi pay-as-you-go fares will rise from £1.60 to £1.65 and Avanchi student and child prices will rise from 80p to 85p.

However, contactless prices for adults will remain at £2 and £1 for children.

Meanwhile, the cost of an annual unlimited travel card has been frozen at £495 and monthly unlimited passes cost £50 when bought at Liberation Station, or £46 online.

And the weekly unlimited card will remain frozen at £21 when bought in the station, but online purchases will increase from £18 to £20. Discover Jersey passes, which provide unlimited travel for one, two, three or seven days, will also be frozen at their 2018 prices.

Kevin Hart, director of LibertyBus, said that fares needed to rise to keep the current service sustainable.

‘Recognising the growth in the amount of people switching to contactless over the last nine months, we have decided to freeze the contactless prices this year at £2 per journey for adults,’ he said

‘These fare changes overall are well below inflation and continue to offer excellent value for money, with an ever-expanding bus network across Jersey.’

It has also been announced that bus passengers will have the option of using a later service to and from St Ouen’s Bay on Fridays and Saturdays from April, when the new summer timetable begins.

A new route 22 service is being added, which will leave Liberation Station at 8.20pm and return from L’Etacq at 9.18pm.

Evening services have also been extended elsewhere, with the 9.10pm route 2 service continuing from Gorey Pier to St Catherine and the Friday and Saturday 10.30pm route 9 service extending to Millais, Grosnez and Vinchelez.

Islanders who use route 13 now have three extra buses per day to choose from and all will run via Prince’s Tower Road.
