The owner of the property in Grouville tried to tackle the fire, which had spread to the carpet, before getting his family out of the house.
Firefighters in two fire engines then arrived at the house on Sunday afternoon and ensured the fire was fully extinguished.
In a Facebook post, Jersey Fire and Rescue said fires can easily be started by the sun’s rays being magnified or reflected, especially as the weather improved.
