New festival will highlight Island’s culinary excellence

Taste Jersey, developed by Luxury Jersey Hotels in association with the Jersey Evening Post, will showcase the culinary quality of the Island’s top hotels and one of their restaurant partners – Mark Jordan at the Beach.

With a number of local products coming into season in the next few weeks, diners are invited to tuck into an array of dishes on the specially curated menus, all of which put Jersey meat, seafood and vegetables in the spotlight.

A supplement showcasing the participating hotels and their menus is published in today’s JEP and will be available from all participating hotels and restaurants. All menus are also available online at tastejersey.je.

The participating hotels – St Brelade’s Bay Hotel, L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa, Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa, The Atlantic Hotel, Hotel La Place, The Royal Yacht, Hotel de France, The Club Hotel & Spa and Longueville Manor – are all members of Luxury Jersey Hotels, which was formed ten years ago to promote Jersey as a holiday destination.

The group’s founder member and chairman, Patrick Burke, owner of The Atlantic Hotel, explained why the hoteliers came together.

He said: ‘While it was an unprecedented initiative to bring hoteliers together in this way. It was based on the premise that if we could bring more people to the Island, it would build the market. There had been an enormous investment in the industry at the turn of the century, with new hotels being built and existing hotels undergoing significant refurbishment.

‘As the recession of 2007/8 hit, Jersey had an over-supply of luxury accommodation, and we were in danger of charging silly money to try and undercut one another. By working together, we were able to build interest in the Island. Now, with ten properties in the group and a further ten partners such as Catherine Best and Taittinger champagne on board, we are in a strong position and can feel very proud of the extraordinary quality of accommodation, food and drink the Island has to offer.’

Mr Burke added: ‘We are now in the perfect position to run Taste Jersey because of the investment that each of our members has made in their restaurants, their hugely talented chefs and their team members who provide the experience our diners enjoy.

‘Jersey is in a unique position to deliver a world-class gastronomic experience. We are sitting on an Island with the most fantastic produce and, over the last 15 to 20 years, we have seen the emergence of specialist producers and suppliers who provide the quality ingredients our chefs need to create their dishes.

‘With the excellent quality of producers and the talent of some of the finest chefs in Britain, we can truly celebrate all that is wonderful about the Island.’

Taste Jersey will run from 4 March to 7 April.
