French Harbour boardwalk is finished

Previously, anyone wanting to use the path, which stretches along Quai aux Marchands – from La Collette to the northern end of Commercial Buildings – had to cross the road when reaching South Pier or La Folie.

However, path users can now travel from Havre des Pas to Corbière while only having to cross junctions at the Waterfront – using a pelican crossing, the entrance to La Collette industrial area, the New North Quay and the Railway Walk.

Infrastructure Minister Kevin Lewis said that he was pleased with how the project had gone but said more could still be done to improve cycle facilities in Jersey.

‘It makes it a lot safer for cyclists and pedestrians and you can now cycle from Havre des Pas to Corbière in complete safety,’ he said.

‘Obviously, there is more to do. I want to improve cycle access for people who commute into town, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.

‘It was quite a complicated bit of construction because we did not close the road, although there were restrictions. It had to be in keeping with the area, so a lot of thought went into it.’

Parking on the French Harbour slipway has been maintained.
