Jersey to bask in potentially record-breaking warm weather: 16°C by the weekend

Unusually warm air will be dragged up from the south, bringing spring-like weather from Thursday onwards.

Currently Jersey Met are forecasting a maximum temperature of 14°C on Thursday, which would beat the daily record for the 21st February of 12.9°C set in 1940.

Daily records for 22nd and 23rd could also be broken and there is a chance that the overall monthly record of 16.2°C for February could be smashed.

Jersey Met are currently forecasting highs of 15°C on Friday and 16°C on Saturday.

Forecaster Joanna Chambers said: ‘There is a very good chance that we could break some records this week, and the settled, warmer weather looks set to last for a while – through the weekend and into the early part of next week.

‘The warmer weather is being caused by high pressure over the continent and a deep low out to the Atlantic which are dragging up warmer air from the south.’

This time last year Jersey was about to be hit by the Beast from the East cold snap, which sent temperatures plummeting across the British Isles. The maximum temperature recorded on 28 February last year was minus 0.4°C.
