Approval to build hospital on current site is rescinded

But the People’s Park will definitely not become the chosen location, as Members backed an amendment from St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft to protect the park as well as Parade Gardens, Victoria Park, Lower Park and Westmount Gardens from development.

All other sites – in theory including the current site – are now back on the table.

The Assembly spent the entire day debating the scheme and whether to re-look at different options for the £466-million project.

Members ultimately backed the proposition, lodged by Deputy Russell Labey, to rescind the approval given by the previous Assembly to build on the current site.

It was backed by 39 votes to seven.

The Members who voted against the proposition were: Senators Ian Gorst, Kristina Moore and Steve Pallett, Constables Len Norman and Mike Jackson and Deputies Judy Martin and Kirsten Morel.

All sites will now be examined again. In theory, the current site could also be included, even though the previous approval was rescinded.
