Jersey director wins BAFTA

Michael Pearce’s directorial debut, Beast, has received critical acclaim since its release last year and was shortlisted at the ceremony among some of the biggest films of the year.

And the Jersey-born director picked up the award for Outstanding Debut for a Writer, Director or Producer alongside the film’s producer Lauren Dark.

The film, which was set and partly shot in the Island, also received a nomination for Outstanding British Film but lost out to The Favourite while Jessie Buckley, who stars at Moll in Beast was beaten to the BAFTA rising star award by Black Panther star Letitia Wright.

Mr Pearce was included in the list of BAFTA members for 2019 alongside the likes of Hollywood stars Hugh Grant and Willem Dafoe, and Doctor Who actress Jodie Whittaker.
