Ann Court housing work due to begin next month

Last week the States approved a proposition lodged by Deputy Steve Luce calling for Treasury Minister Susie Pinel to be requested to sign off a £37.8 million loan to Andium Homes to commence work on the site. Chief Minister John Le Fondré had paused the plans with a view to building a new States headquarters there instead. Dominique Caunce, a spokeswoman for Andium, said that following the States’ decision contracts were passed with a local construction company for the scheme on Thursday afternoon.

‘Andium Homes is delighted to confirm that contracts have this afternoon [Thursday] been signed with Cameron’s to commence work on the Ann Court site,’ she said. ‘We have given the Growth, Housing and Environment Department notice to vacate the Ann Court temporary car park to enable main contract works to commence on Tuesday 5 March. Site preparations will start next week, with the development being completed in January 2022.’

Cameron’s chief executive Marc Burton said: ‘Camerons are delighted to have signed such a significant contract with Andium, which not only provides a secure workload for the local construction industry and supply chain, but ultimately provides valuable social housing on completion of the project to meet the needs of the Island.’

Under Andium’s plans 165 rental units will be built at the site, comprising 130 one-bedroom flats, 35 two-bedroom flats and four commercial units.
