More candidates to stand in by-election

Businessman Gordon George Troy and Jersey Beach Festival founder Andrea Talibard-Mallet have confirmed that they hope to fill the seat which
has become vacant following the death of Deputy Richard Rondel, who passed away in November after a battle with bowel cancer.

Mr Troy stood unsuccessfully for Senator during May’s General Election – coming 13th out of the 17 candidates.

He said: ‘As a Jerseyman, I would like to serve my Island and would like to represent the people of the parish I live in and the people of the Island that I am passionate about.’

Mrs Talibard-Mallet said that having been involved with a string of community projects, she felt she could ‘contribute and achieve much more’ as a States Member.

She said: ‘The late Deputy Richard Rondel is such a great loss and his shoes are impossible to fill,
but I am determined to see his vision for the regeneration of the district and St Helier come to fruition, as well as being a voice for the people of Jersey on so many issues that we face together.’

They will be joined on the campaign trail by St Helier Procureur du Bien Public Geraint Jennings who previously announced he was putting himself forward for the seat.

Meanwhile, former St Helier No 3/4 Deputy Jackie Hilton has confirmed she will not be standing for a return to the district from which she stood down in May. However, she has not ruled out a return to politics in the future.

The nominations meeting, when all candidates formally put themselves forward for election, is due to take place on Tuesday 29 January at 7 pm at the Town Hall, with the election taking place on Wednesday 27 February.
