Plans to turn offices into 13 flats

Wellington House makes the corner of Dumaresq Street and Union Street, close to Romerils. It was built over four floors with a pitched roof in the early 1980s and was used for office accommodation until recently.

It is adjacent to a three-storey building in Dumaresq Street to the south and a four-storey commercial property, which is also vacant, to the east in Union Street.

If the Planning Committee approve the application, the remodelled and extended premises would comprise six one-bedroom and seven two-bedroom apartments with a communal roof terrace garden. The number of residential units has been reduced by six from the previous application.

In the application design statement, Godel Architects, who drew up the plans for Wellington House Ltd, say: ‘The existing office space is currently not let, and is inferior when compared to new office developments in St Helier.

‘This scheme seeks to re-use the existing structure and to give a new lease of life to an outdated facility, providing much-needed residential accommodation, while at the same time considerably enhancing the visual quality of this important entrance point to the town.’

The scheme also includes the creation of 13 bike storage racks, a gym, courtyard and bin store on the ground floor.

There is no provision for car parking on the site.
