In the run-up to Christmas, the force will be carrying out frequent road-checks – with the aim of catching drink-drivers and motorists using defective vehicles.

With a higher number of Islanders visiting town nightspots, the service will also be helping States officers during their patrols of St Helier.

Vingtenier Ben Wheaton, head of patrols and roads policing for St Helier honorary police, explained what the force would be doing.

‘Our campaign in December is to educate motorists on any defects identified on vehicles and to take appropriate action where necessary. Officers will also be checking for any motorists who they believe could be drink-driving,’ he said.

‘Officers will also be assisting States of Jersey police at the weekends by providing secondary support while there will be an increased demand on the night-time economy.

‘Officers will assist in the detection and prevention of any offences as well as other incidents which officers could identify in the course of the patrol.’
