And the new restaurant, which will be called The Shipyard, is to feature a large indoor children’s play area, as well as a stage for entertainment and live music.
Enabling works have started at the site and it is expected that the new facility will open in the spring.
The 180-seater restaurant will be operated by Casual Dining Group, which runs the Bella Italia and Café Rouge brands, as well as the catering facility at Jersey Airport.
A spokesman for Ports of Jersey said: ‘The Shipyard will cater for both local clientele as well as ferry passengers and promises an all-day, high-quality dining experience, including both “grab-and-go” options as well as an à-la-carte offering. With the creation of a large indoor play area and dedicated children’s menus, the restaurant will appeal to families and a stage will allow the venue to offer evening entertainment and live music.’
The enabling work is being carried out by local contractor Regal Construction, whose appointment followed a competitive tender process.
The Harbour Bar and Café at the Elizabeth Terminal closed in November 2013 and has remained shut since, with passengers arriving at and departing from the terminal limited to buying the products on offer at a small coffee stand that was opened to try to temporarily fill the gap left by the restaurant.
Earlier this year Ports of Jersey advertised for a new operator to run a restaurant at the site after its project with local restaurateur Marcus Calvani ground to a
halt.
Mr Calvani blamed red tape and bureaucracy for the delays and subsequent collapse of the joint venture.
