UK police officers boost Jersey force

The new constables – Kate Marie Young, Stephen James Young, Aleya Rebecca Galvin and John Anthony Shatford – were sworn in before the Bailiff, Sir William Bailhache, on Friday.

The four officers – who have combined policing experience of 86 years – will join five local recruits starting work at the States of Jersey police.

PC Aleya Galvin comes to the Island from West Midlands Police, covering various areas across Birmingham, where she served 16 years. She has a degree in biological sciences from the University of Birmingham and is currently studying for a Master’s degree in management and leadership.

PC Kate Young joins the Jersey force with 20 years’ experience having first worked as a crime scene investigator before becoming a police officer. She has worked in custody, response and neighbourhood policing as well as disruption teams.

PC Stephen Young has transferred to Jersey from Merseyside Police where he worked for 20 years, most recently on the targeted disruption team.

He has also worked in custody, response and neighbourhood policing.

With 30 years in the police, PC John Shatford is the longest serving of the new officers.

He progressed from civilian support staff to control room operator and worked with Wiltshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police for 18 years. For the past seven years, he was in the role of neighbourhood specialist officer and supervised a team of 13 community support officers.

In addition to the transferring officers, three new recruits were sworn in last month and two more are expected to be sworn in at the end of November.
