Employment in Jersey hits record levels

The latest Jersey Labour Market survey shows that overall 61,930 people were employed in the Island in June 2018, which was 320 more than at the same time a year earlier – the previous record number.

The size of Jersey’s workforce has grown particularly during the last five years and was just 56,290 in June 2013.

The private sector has expanded by almost 5,000 workers during that time and its numbers now stand at 54,220, while over the same period 600 jobs have been shed from the public sector, which had 7,700 employees in June this year.

A total of 11 per cent of jobs in Jersey are now on zero-hour contracts. The largest sector, financial services, employs 13,380 people – one fifth of the Island’s workforce.
