Halloween evening ‘safe and enjoyable’

Halloween evening ‘safe and enjoyable’

The States police has now thanked Islanders for ensuring Halloween was a ‘safe and enjoyable night’ and also expressed its gratitude to the honorary officers who were on patrol.

St Brelade Centenier Amanda Wright said that although there were some incidents in the parish, on the whole the evening was ‘fun’ for all involved.

‘There were a few reports of egging, which happens every year I’m afraid,’ she added.

‘We had lots of patrols to help the States police out, and they were less busy than they have been in previous years.

Centenier Wright said the parish planned in advance for Halloween and also worked to engage with parishioners during the evening.

‘We had four times the regular number of honorary officers on patrol for a Wednesday night,’ she said.

‘We wouldn’t put on the extra patrols and block off the night from parish hall inquiries if we thought it was going to be just like every other night of the year. It clearly isn’t. There is the potential for something to happen.

‘What we wanted to do is be high-profile and pro-active rather than reactive.’

In a tweet, the States police said: ‘Thank you to everyone for making Halloween a safe and enjoyable night and also a big thank you to our honorary colleagues who were out and about last night.’
