Bid for a day with the Red Arrows at RAF Scampton

But fans of the aerobatic display team could still get their adrenaline fix by bidding in this year’s Jersey Christmas Appeal auction.

Organisers have revealed that one of the lots in the annual fundraiser is the opportunity to spend a day with the Red Arrows at RAF Scampton.

The RAF has donated the VIP visit for two to the airbase.

The lot includes a guided tour of the Hawk aircraft with an engineer, photographs in front of the Arrows and, weather permitting, the chance to watch a flying display.

During the visit, which will take place on 15 January 2020, the successful bidder will also enjoy a presentation on the activities of the Red Arrows by one of the squadron’s officers, the chance to sit in with the pilots on a pre-sortie briefing and debrief, and lunch with the team during the visit. Travel costs to RAF Scampton are not included.

The Jersey Christmas Appeal auction, which is due to be launched on 26 November, raises funds to provide hampers and food, and toy or fuel vouchers for Islanders in need over the festive season. The auction results will be broadcast live on Channel 103 on 9 December.

Fiona Walker, auction co-ordinator, said: ‘We are always on the lookout for exciting and exhilarating items for auction, and a day with the Red Arrows is certainly spectacular.

‘It is an ever-increasing challenge to raise the funds needed to help Jersey families over the Christmas period, so naturally we are hoping that this will attract some extremely competitive bidding. We are trying to source around 200 varied lots to make the 2018 auction a success, and we hope this will inspire other people to donate items to go under the hammer.’
