New hospital online petition: Staff already have ballot on preferred site

An online petition requesting all Health staff be asked for their opinions on the Future Hospital project passed the 1,000 signature threshold which triggers a response from the minister.

However, Health Minister Richard Renouf said the petition’s request was unnecessary as staff had already been sent a ballot commissioned by the Hospital Policy Development Board.

The policy development board was set up by Chief Minister John Le Fondré to review the procedures taken and the decisions made concerning the new £466 million hospital and is due to deliver its conclusions later this month.

In response to the petition, Deputy Renouf said that the suggested questions had been put to hospital staff and he would not seek to ‘duplicate the work of the board by arranging a further survey in specific response to the petition’.

He said: ‘The survey, prepared by an independent survey company, has been sent to all staff currently working for Health and Community Services via e-mail to their work address. Paper copies will be available for staff who wish to complete a hard copy of the survey. Responses will be completely confidential and staff members will not be identifiable.

‘It is important that the views of staff are heard and the Chief Minister, Health Minister and Health and Community Services management are encouraging everyone to participate so that their views are known.

‘The results will be used by the board in developing conclusions in its report to the Chief Minister at the end of October.

‘The survey is supported by the Health Minister, who is also on the Hospital Policy Development Board.’
