Boardwalk build starts on Monday

THE construction of a new boardwalk which will link cycle routes from the west with Havre des Pas, and prevent users from having to use the road, is due to begin on Monday.

Throughout the project, the northbound lane of Le Quai aux Marchands – between South Pier Marine and La Folie – will be closed, and temporary traffic lights will be in place.

Because of tidal restrictions, and the sensitive historical nature of the site, it is expected that the structure will take five months to build.

Crews will be working on the project from 7.30 am until 6 pm from Monday to Friday, and between 7.30 am and 1 pm on Saturdays. Access to the slipway will be maintained throughout.

The boardwalk is being constructed in line with the States’ Sustainable Transport Policy, which aims to reduce the Island’s reliance on cars, and encourage walking, cycling and public transport use to increase people’s physical activity.
