Sex offender jailed after being snared by online vigilante

Stephen Edward Facchino (33) contacted ‘James’ in June on the gay dating app Grindr.

Outlining the case in the Royal Court, Crown Advocate Richard Pedley said ‘James’ was actually paedophile hunter Cheyenne O’Connor, who poses as a teen on dating websites and in chatrooms.

Facchino, who is classed as being at high risk of re-offending, and ‘James’ communicated for a 24-hour period, Advocate Pedley said.

Over that time he quizzed ‘James’ about his knowledge of various sexual acts, and Facchino offered to send him links to websites and to ‘teach’ him about being gay, the court heard.

Police arrested Facchino after Miss O’Connor tipped them off that he was going to meet ‘James’ at a Green Street bus stop.

He later pleaded guilty to one charge of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.

Deputy Bailiff Tim Le Cocq called Facchino’s actions ‘highly predatory’.
