Passenger plane makes emergency landing at Jersey Airport after crack appears in windscreen

The ATR aircraft, operated by Blue Islands, was en route from Guernsey to Southampton when it declared a full emergency, according to the International Flight Network Twitter feed.

It is understood that the aircraft’s windscreen may have been cracked.

All emergency services were on the scene when the plane landed safely.

In a statement, Blue Islands said: ‘Blue Islands flight BE6300 landed safely in Jersey at 07.46 this morning, having diverted as a precaution, following a random failure of a heating element in the aircraft’s windscreen which caused a crack to appear.

‘The ATR 72 aircraft landed safely and without incident in Jersey and was met by the Airport’s emergency services as is standard procedure in such instances.

‘All passengers disembarked normally and were transferred Blue Islands’ backup aircraft to continue their journey to Southampton, which departed at 08.50.

‘The safety of passengers, crew and aircraft is Blue Islands’ highest priority and we apologise for the inconvenience experienced.’
