Jersey’s bounty on display at Autumn Fair

The Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society’s Autumn Fair is due to take place over the first weekend of October at the Royal Jersey Showground in Trinity. In addition to the fruit, vegetable, flower and home-baked cakes categories, the show – the final highlight of the rural events calendar – will also see dairy farmers parading their finest animals in the Autumn Cattle Show with competitions between poultry, pigeon and caged-bird fanciers in the Poultry and Ornithological Show.

‘Local country shows are making a comeback and the RJAHS Autumn Fair ranks with the best,’ society president Robert Perchard said. ‘Our most beautiful Jersey cows, heifers and calves will be on display of course, but there’s so much more besides, with a terrific horticultural show with all manner of fruit, vegetables and flowers, showcasing all of Jersey’s bounty.

‘Not to mention an excellent ornithological show with poultry, other birds and rabbits and guinea pigs. If you appreciate Jersey’s rural traditions and want to see the best the Island has to offer, head for the Trinity showground and you won’t be disappointed.’

The show is open from 10.30 am to 5 pm on 6 and 7 October. Entry is £4 for adults, £2 for senior citizens with no charge for children and RJAHS members. Parking is free. Trade stalls include home-made jams and preserves from St Clement’s Church, Christmas cards and gifts, local arts and crafts and food and refreshments.
