Harbour ladders to be replaced

Although they are made of steel, the five ladders, at the lower level of the western-facing sea wall – below the buildings behind La Folie Inn – are so corroded Ports of Jersey say they have been condemned due to health and safety considerations for the boat owners who use them.

A Planning application has been submitted to replace the ladders. The proposed works also include removing oak fender beams which are rotten and have gribble worms, the marine version of wood lice, attached to them.

A spokesman for Ports of Jersey says if approval is given the authority hopes to complete the work by the end of the year.
