Rugby international Danny Cipriani charged with assault in Jersey nightclub

Mr Cipriani, who won his way back into the England fold in South Africa this summer, is due to appear in the Magistrate’s Court at 10 am on Thursday.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the States police said: ‘This afternoon, 30 year old Daniel Cipriani was charged with common assault, larceny, assault on police, resisting arrest and being disorderly on licensed premises.

‘He has been remanded in custody until his court appearance at the Magistrates Court at 10 am tomorrow.

‘Cipriani was arrested in the early hours of this morning following an incident in Mulcaster St in St Helier.’

Gloucester Rugby, who signed the fly-half from Wasps, were in the Island for what was hailed as a successful pre-season training session with Championship side Jersey Reds.

In a statement on its website, the club said: ‘Gloucester Rugby are aware of an incident involving Danny Cipriani in the early hours of Wednesday morning following an incident at a St Helier nightclub. He was arrested and has since been charged by police.’
