Holidaymaker trying to meet 14-year-old boy is caught by vigilante

IT project manager Mark Collyer-Watson (36), who comes from North Yorkshire, admitted engaging with the ‘boy’ on the online gay dating app Grindr.

Collyer-Watson arranged to meet the ‘boy’ outside the KFC restaurant on the Waterfront on 25 July.

At the time the offence was committed he had come to Jersey for a short break with his mother following the death of his father.

He is one of a long line of men who have been convicted after being caught by Miss O’Connor, who poses as children online to catch sex offenders.

Advocate Sarah Dale, defending, said that she needed the sentencing hearing to be adjourned for four weeks, as she would be out of the Island.

Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris said that the defendant was in custody and would remain there. Normally it would take only two weeks for a background report on a defendant who is remanded in custody to be prepared. However, Mr Harris said that there would be no prejudice against the defendant by him spending an extra two weeks on remand.

The case was adjourned until 6 September, when sentence will be imposed.
