More than 120 people on board the Saga Pearl II have booked to watch tomorrow’s event after the cruise ship’s agents approached Battle organisers to arrange the excursion earlier this year.
Jersey will be the first destination in an eight-day ‘Around Britain Cruise’ for the 164-metre ship, which will be carrying more than 500 British, American and Australian passengers.
Jackie Donald, events director for the Battle, said she believed it was the first time a cruise ship has been to the Island for the parade.
‘While Battle traditionally attracts thousands of repeat visitors, predominantly British, we are delighted with the opportunity to promote our event to a wider international audience.
‘Having experienced the parades for themselves, this may encourage passengers to spread the word and entice future visits. In particular, having seen how the process works, we would love the opportunity to work with other cruise operators and attract more ships at this time of the year.’
She added: ‘Although Battle of Flowers is often considered a “tradition” it continues to evolve and adapt, as has been demonstrated in recent years with new elements introduced. To enhance the show we must continue to spread that message to encourage and attract new audiences, both on and off-Island.’
Tickets for the 2018 parades can still be booked online from the Battle website. An official ticket kiosk, located at Liberty Wharf, will remain open until just before the event, subject to ticket availability.
