Please tell us what you’re paid, asks pay-gap panel

In the UK, under regulations introduced last year, all private, voluntary and public sector organisations with 250 or more employees must publish information on their gender pay gap.

However, no such regime has been introduced in Jersey yet.

From preliminary research carried out, the newly formed Gender Pay-Gap Review Panel has reportedly found that within the public sector a high majority of males occupy the senior level jobs.

And the data also shows that a higher proportion of females compared to males earn £70,000 or less within the public sector workforce while more men than women earn above that amount.

Deputy Louise Doublet, chairwoman of the panel, said: ‘It is so important that we find out whether there is a gender pay gap in Jersey.

‘Currently, there are very limited statistics in this area and having reliable data is paramount in helping us make evidence based, well informed policy decisions in future – we can’t address what we don’t know. We are calling on the public and organisations to write to us on this very topical issue.’

The other panel members are vice-chairman Deputy Kirsten Morel, Senator Kristina Moore and Deputy Jess Perchard.

Written submissions can be sent via email to scrutiny@gov.je or by letter to the Scrutiny Office, Morier House, Halkett Place, St. Helier, Jersey. JE1 1DD.
