Find out about life on the farm this Saturday

Families are able to visit the La Ferme Farm, which is home to more than 530 cows, for the open day, which runs from 11 am to 4 pm.

Visitors will be able to meet the cows and see what life is like at the busy working dairy farm, as well as enjoy tractor and trailer rides, an animal petting corner and displays of classic cars.

The Perchard family have lived at La Ferme on Jersey’s north-east tip for more than 60 years and Tom Perchard is the third generation to care for the world-famous Anson Herd.

His father, Rob, who is president of the Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society, will be giving tours on the day.

He said: ‘It is a lot of work for us but we are happy to open the farm to give people an opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes of a dairy farm.

‘It also enables people to see where their milk comes from and to understand about the relationship between the land and the food they are buying.

‘Our family has a tradition of doing things to benefit the community and it is a great way of raising money for good causes.’

Jersey Dairy, the RJAHS, Rotary Club de la Manche and fellow dairy farmers are all helping out with the day. The proceeds will be donated equally between Jersey Mencap and Brightly Jersey – formerly known as Brig-y-Don Children’s Charity.

La Ferme is located off Route des Côtes du Nord, St Martin and direction signs will be posted along main roads in the area. Admission is £5 for adults but children get in for free. There is also free parking on the site.
