Festival adopts wristband payment system

Those attending the music festival on Saturday 28 July in Coronation Park are able to go online before the event and put credit on a wristband which they can collect when they enter the festival.

They can then use it to buy drinks up to 30 per cent quicker than if they were using cash – speeding up the serving process for everyone and improving security.

People can also top up their credit inside the festival.

The wristbands also monitor which bars are popular, allowing organisers to help control queue lengths and allocate staff.

The system, which is used at most major European festivals, was trialled at Streetlife Festival in April and Carrie Cooper from Reasons Festival said: ‘It couldn’t have worked better’.

All staff are trained to use the wristband system, which will still function as normal if network connection is lost.

And, in what they say is an effort to add to their good track record for ‘friendliness, warmth and trouble-free raving’, organisers are switching to eco-friendly paper cups that are bio-degradable and better for the environment.

Reasons have also teamed up with Durrell to dispose of empty cans properly.

A team will crush the cans and take them for recycling while raising money for Cans for Corridors – a scheme which builds tree corridors for wildlife in badly degraded parts of the Brazilian rainforest.

Ms Cooper added: ‘We are always working towards a gradual reduction of plastic-use throughout the site.

‘We can’t say plastic-free yet, but we’re always getting closer.’

Reasons to be Cheerful, which has Airtel-Vodafone as its headline sponsor, is now in its fourth year and aims to be 2018’s ‘biggest dance music event for the Island’, with online tickets selling out weeks in advance. Tickets are still on sale at Roulette Clothing and Moo.

Acts due to perform include Sasha, Claude Von Stroke, Gerry Cinnamon and headliner Roni Size.
