World champion aims to get Jersey cycling this summer

Three-time elite BMX world champion and two-time team sprint world champion Shanaze Reade, who is an ambassador for British Cycling, is due in the Island for the HSBC Let’s Ride Jersey on Sunday 19 August.

The free event is part of a nationwide initiative organised by the bank to get more people cycling and will include a number of ride-outs for people of all ages and abilities between Jardins de la Mer and Bel Royal.

Ms Reade, who is now retired from competitive cycling and instead focuses on coaching and getting more women into the sport, will meet participants and offer cycling advice as well as joining in the ride-outs and setting target times for the sprint challenge.

The following day she will lead a training session with the Jersey Cycling Association Youth Academy.

Commenting on her visit to Jersey, she said: ‘Events like this are a fantastic way to encourage people of all ages and abilities to enjoy cycling, whether it’s for fun in their spare time, for getting to and from work or more competitively. Jersey offers such an amazing backdrop for cycling, and I’m really looking forward to coming over to hopefully inspire people to get back on the saddle.’
