Blood donor centre reopens for testing

Earlier this year it was announced that Jersey Blood Service, the Island’s only donor centre, would close temporarily so that work could take place to ensure that its facilities were brought up to EU standards.

A Health Department spokesman confirmed that a small number of donors were due to attend the centre later this week to test the new processes at the centre.

He added that the service was due to be inspected later this month after which a decision on when to fully reopen the facility would be made.

In February, the then Health Minister Andrew Green signed a ministerial decision which allowed the States to collect and prepare blood locally for six months if stocks were unable to reach the Island from the UK.

The licence was extended for a further three months in June.
