Hundreds take up 30 Bays challenge
HUNDREDS of Islanders have signed up to a charity fundraising initiative which challenges people to swim in 30 bays over the month of July.
On Sunday morning, more than 100 participants took the first dip of the month at St Brelade’s Bay for the 30 Bays in 30 Days challenge, which is raising money for Jersey Hospice and the National Trust for Jersey.
Linzi Duckworth, Jersey Hospice marketing and communications officer, said she was quietly confident that the number of people registering for the event could top 300.
‘We had a fabulous turnout on Sunday despite the weather and the traffic problems from the Triathlon,’ she said. ‘We have had 292 people register so far which is already 92 more than overall last year. I think people are starting to talk to their family and friends about it and are saying, “this is actually a really good idea”.’
