Public called on to get in the swim for local causes

There’s just two weeks to go until the annual fundraising event for the National Trust for Jersey and Jersey Hospice Care, which invites Islanders to visit 30 bays during one month. Some swimmers even attempt to take a dip in 30 bays in just one day.

The first of the group swims is due to take place at St Brelade’s Bay at 10.30 am on Sunday 1 July where people can register, pick up new swimming hats and meet fellow swimmers. Safety cover will be provided by Le Mourier Swim/Sea/Save, in conjunction with the RNLI Lifeguards, until 11 am.

Steven Hunt, fundraising chairman at Jersey Hospice Care, said: ‘You can’t beat spending time on the beach and going for a sea swim as a great way to relax. This challenge celebrates how lucky we are to have so many amazing places to go swimming.

‘Those taking part can experience a fun way of making the most of living in our beautiful Island, feel that they have achieved something this summer and visit bays they have never swum in before or haven’t visited since childhood.

‘I would encourage everyone to take part, enjoy the benefits for themselves and support two local charities in the process.’

Charles Alluto, chief executive for the National Trust for Jersey, added: ‘We hope as many people as possible will take part and enjoy our 30 Bays in 30 Days challenge. Please do not be put off if you think you cannot complete the challenge in July; we encourage you to continue in August or just swim in your favourite bay as many times as you can.’

To register visit 30bays30days.org.je. Swimmers can also register at the opening swim and throughout the month of July.

The event is supported by Network Insurance and Financial Planning, The Potting Shed and Fuse 2.
