Arcadia Lockhart has taken up the new role after the position of Miss Battle was scrapped earlier this year as part of a move to modernise the annual parade.
Miss Lockhart, who was one of five finalists, was named ambassador – a role which was open to both men and women between the ages of 17 and 25 – during a ceremony at Jersey Arts Centre on Sunday.
She will now lead the day parade on Thursday 9 August and the moonlight parade the following day.
Miss Lockhart, who lives in St Helier, said: ‘I am overwhelmed to have won and have the opportunity of representing the Jersey Battle of Flowers 2018 and my Island.’
Earlier in the evening, the Junior Ambassador title was presented to ten-year-old Tobias Hosking, who said he was ‘gobsmacked’ to have won. Chelsea Birch (11), who lives in St Saviour, was the runner-up for Junior Ambassador.
Tobias’ sister Lucie Hosking (21) was made consort to the Ambassador.
Miss Hosking, who is a postgraduate student living in St Clement, will accompany Miss Lockhart on duties during their 12-month tenure.
Before the name of this year’s Ambassador was announced, the audience heard from the outgoing, and final, Miss Battle of Flowers – 2017 titleholder Evie Bertram.
Miss Bertram, who is currently finishing her first year of university, described her year as ‘memorable and fantastic’ and reminded Miss Lockhart to make the most of every opportunity that presented itself.
Judges for both competitions were Rebecca Houzé, who was Miss Battle of Flowers 2012, BBC Radio Jersey presenter Connor Burgher, and Mary Moody from the Jersey Variety Club, which is the designated charity for this year’s Battle. Both competitions were compéred by broadcaster Charlie McArdle.
