Driver has window smashed by flying hammer in Trinity

The States police and one of the parish’s Centeniers have now launched an investigation to try to find out who threw the
tool while the vehicle was travelling along Rue de la Croix last month.

Stuart McMullen, a construction consultant, says he does not think his yellow Vauxhall Astra was deliberately targeted.

‘I heard a rustle in the hedge, there was a big bang on my window and all of a sudden the glass just shattered everywhere,’ he said.

‘I did not realise it was a hammer until I got out of my car and saw it on the passenger seat.

‘My 88-year-old mother is in the car with me quite a lot and I reckon it would have killed her if she was there,’ added Mr McMullen, who was driving to St Ouen at the time of the incident.

Mr McMullen said that he performed an emergency stop and walked to the nearby Trinity parish hall to ask for help from a Centenier.

‘I went down to see the honorary police at Trinity parish hall who I gave a statement to and they came and had a look and took the hammer away,’ he said.

‘I just think it was lucky it was me in the car rather than someone on a bike, otherwise they could have been severely injured.

‘I really do not know who might have done it. I think it is just one of those things.’

Anyone who has any information about the incident, which happened at 9.50 am on 21 May, is being asked to contact the States police on 612612 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
