The body of Hungarian national Zsuzsanna Besenyei was found at Le Pulec bay on the west coast on 16 May – several days after she was reported missing. Jamie Lee Warn (54) was later charged with murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Anikó Fórizs, a friend of Miss Besenyei, has launched an appeal on the Just Giving website to raise £5,000 to cover the cost of a memorial service and cremation.
‘Zsuszanna’s family has still got to decide what to do with her body but they are currently planning to cremate her and take her ashes back to Hungary,’ she said.
‘She kept herself to herself but she had plenty of friends and was well-liked.
‘She does not have any family in Jersey but there are about 100 Hungarians and we all look after each other and are very close. We want to hold a service for her in Jersey,’ she added.
Ms Fórizs added that around £180 had been raised so far and that she was planning on holding a raffle to raise even more.
The Hungarian also praised a local Christian charity who had agreed to accept donations on her behalf.
‘It was very difficult to set up the fundraising page as we need a bank account based locally but Caritas Jersey helped us a lot and are collecting the donations for us. They have been a great help.
‘We have not set an exact date yet but we are hoping to hold a raffle and a few companies have already put forward some prizes for us.’
