Can Jersey Post deliver at awards ceremony?

The organisation has been shortlisted in two categories at the World Post & Parcel Awards 2018, which recognises excellence in mail and express services and is now in its 19th year.

The group’s automated parcel management system has been shortlisted for awards in the innovation and customer service and technology sections.

It involved the installation of an automated parcel sorting machine which connected to hand-held terminals and tracking software used by postal workers out on their delivery rounds. The combination of equipment and software has helped the organisation to enhance its delivery operation, generate cost efficiencies and provide greater customer choice.

While it is the first machine of its kind in Jersey, the automated delivery system is similar to other systems used worldwide.

Paul Marett, director of information and communication technology at Jersey Post, said: ‘Most parcels received by Islanders are the product of internet shopping and everyone in the purchase chain, including Jersey Post, have similar requirements – quick, seamless and hassle-free delivery.

‘Thanks to the parcel automation project, our success with first-time delivery key performance indicators has improved enormously to the benefit of all stakeholders.’

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in London on 12 June at the Royal Lancaster Hotel.

Meanwhile, Jersey Post is also issuing a set of eight stamps to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The JSPCA was established in 1868 with the aim of changing attitudes towards animals and in 1913 Islander Frances Elizabeth Wilson founded the Jersey Animals’ Shelter to care for abandoned, sick, injured and stray creatures.

Melanie Gouzinis, head of philatelic at Jersey Post, said: ‘The stamps have been illustrated by wildlife artist Andrew Hutchinson, who has depicted some of the birds and animals cared for by the JSPCA and a number of the invaluable services provided by this long-serving Jersey
charity.’
