First-time offender Elizabeth Rosemary Carmen McIntosh (49), of Route Orange, St Brelade, was stopped by police officers on Victoria Avenue after they saw her car swerving in traffic.
In sentencing, Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris told McIntosh: ‘It was an extremely high reading. In a sense you were lucky that there were police officers driving alongside who brought it to an end before anyone got hurt.’
Outlining the case, Centenier Mike Haden said that at about 2.30 pm on 15 April McIntosh was driving a black Ford Zetec along Victoria Avenue towards Bel Royal.
Police officers watched as it swerved into the nearside lane and almost collided with passing traffic. The vehicle narrowly missed the rear of a stationary car.
The driver was pulled over by police in the last lay-by and was seen to be unsteady on her feet and had to hold the vehicle to stand up.
She was arrested and taken to police headquarters. When she blew into the intoximeter she gave a reading of 154 mcg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 mcg.
Advocate James Bell, defending, said that his client had sought help for her problems.
