Motor club aiming to improve road safety

The Classic, Vintage and Modern Racing Club Jersey also say that raising grass banks on two locations in Grande Route de Ste Marie will make the main route out of Grève de Lecq safer for all drivers.

Two applications have been submitted to Planning to raise sections of roadside banks by one metre, firstly above the small Jersey Water reservoir above the Moulin de Lecq pub and then above the junction with Mont Vibert.

Every year in August the club holds two hill climbs at Grève de Lecq as part of the Jersey Speed Festival, which also includes sprint races along the Five Mile Road. The festival is open to cars and motorcycles manufactured up until 1979, and last year 55 vehicles took part, including 12 from the UK. The club also organises the Jersey International Motoring Festival.

In a covering letter, planning and building design consultant Sean Osmond, who is the agent for both applications, said that the proposals were suggested by the Motor Sport Association, the governing and safety body for
motorsport in Jersey.

He wrote: ‘The raising of the grass banks will improve safety for competitors on the occasion that the hill is used for racing. It will also improve safety for motorists generally using the hill.’

The applications, which include location maps and photographs of the areas, can be viewed online at the Planning pages of gov.je, or at Planning’s offices at South Hill.
