Thomas James Langton (20) pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to eight offences committed in the early hours of 25 March.

The charges include driving dangerously while travelling at between 41 and 43 mph in Mulcaster Street when the road was closed in the early hours of the morning for pedestrian safety.

He also admitted dangerous driving by speeding at 57 mph in the 30 mph stretch of road that runs from the Esplanade to Victoria Avenue.

And Langton pleaded guilty to taking and driving away the car from outside Domino’s on St Saviour’s Road without consent and being behind the wheel without insurance or the correct driving licence.

When a blood sample was taken after the accident on the Airport Road, he gave a reading of 157 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. The legal limit is 80 mg.

Langton, who also has a job at the St Brelade’s Bay Hotel and lives at the staff quarters there, is due to be sentenced on 6 June.

As part of his bail conditions, the defendant, who is from the Isle of Man, is not allowed to leave the Island and has to observe a curfew from 10 pm until 6 am. He was immediately banned from driving after admitting the offences.
