Beaches to be cleaned before the boat show

The first beach cleans took place over the weekend, with volunteers from Ports of Jersey and Barclays clearing the shoreline at La Rocque and L’Etacq.

A further 11 beach cleans have been organised at various locations around the Island, including Gorey, Rozel and St Aubin between now and 29 April.

The dates and times of the beach cleans can be found at ports.je.

A Ports spokesman said: ‘The invitation to join in with the spring clean is also extended to members of the public, who may wish to join in with the organisations’ efforts.

‘Pre-booking is not required to sign up. Instead, anyone interested is invited to arrive at the meeting point for each venue at the allocated time. All equipment will be provided courtesy of local charity Littlefeet Environmental, although volunteers may wish to bring a pair of gloves and dress appropriately to the weather conditions on the day, including wellington boots in some areas.

Entertainment for the show has been announced with local band Take This headlining on Saturday night, Inside Job on Sunday afternoon and the 11-piece Little Big Band closing the show on the Monday. They will be joined by the Hot Bananas, Midriff, Backbeat, Serkeidian, Jersey Music Service and Alfie Butel.

The 2018 Barclays Jersey Boat Show, which takes place from Saturday 5 to Monday 7 May, will feature luxury yachts and HMS Mersey, a Royal Navy offshore patrol vessel.
