Killer ‘was found hanged in suspected prison suicide’ inques hears inquest

The 37-year-old was serving 30 years in Full Sutton prison in the East Riding of Yorkshire for killing his wife, Izabela, his children Kinga (5) and Kacper (2), his father-in-law Marek Gartska, family friend Marta de la Haye and her five-year-old daughter Julia in Victoria Crescent in 2011.

At an inquest opening, the court heard that Rzeszowski had died in a suspected suicide. A post-mortem examination carried out by a Home Office pathologist determined that his ‘cause of death was hanging’.

Rzeszowski was acquitted of six counts of murder, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, as he suffered from severe depression and psychotic symptoms.

The inquest has been adjourned until the UK Prisons and Probation Ombudsman complete an investigation into his death. The final inquest will be held in front of a jury.
